The Calgary Crescendo Choir held its first performance on May 22,1997. In November 2000, the choir was incorporated as The Calgary Crescendo Choir Society becoming the only Italian language choir in Western Canada.

The singers perform in concert at the Italian Canadian Cultural Center for their Calgary audience each Christmas and in the spring. They are enjoyed around the city at places like Spolumbo’s and Spinelli’s and offer their gift of music to seniors’ homes and other events.

The choir tours regularly around Alberta and travels nationally and internationally every few years.

Calgary Crescendo Choir is an adult non-auditioned and self-funded choir open to men and women, Italian and non-Italian alike. Knowledge of Italian is an asset but not essential; members must love music and song. The choir practices every Tuesday evening 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Calgary Italian Cultural Centre (416 1st Avenue N.E.). Our season runs from September through June (excluding Christmas holidays).

Marian Hamilton, Music Director
Director Marian Hamilton sees choral conducting as the fine art of blending voices to express the best of human emotion. As a composer, conductor, singer, organist/pianist, and theatre impresario, she has over 45 years of experience bringing music to the stage. She has worked with many fine choirs and currently is the artistic director of The Painted Fish Theatre Company. "Singing in Italian is one of the easiest and best ways to enjoy your voice. The pure vowels and the lush romantic melodies bring joy to the singer and audiences alike".
